Coil extension cable??? Reg if possible

Tony

Member
Reg,

I am wanting to extend the rather short cable on my mono coil with a 1m extension.

The extension cable is a third party one, typical from prospecting shops.

Are there any potential problems or performance issues to consider in doing this?

Thanks,
Tony.

One thing I would do is secure "the join position" to the side of the upper shaft in order to stop any movement at this point....maybe use a couple of plastic ties.

Hi Tony,

My guess it should work fine as long as good connectors or proper insulating techniques are used if the extension is ultimately soldered in place.

My guess is it will work fine with the worst to happen would be you would have to advance the delay just a little on one of Eric's detectors. The exception might be if this is done to a coil to work on a ML. ML's are very finicky when it comes to coils. So, I can't say what would happen if used on a ML. Hopefully, if proper connectors are used, it will work. If not, well, at least you tried.

Personally, I would hold the connectors in place with velcro instead of plastic ties. Velcro is wider and less likely to put excessive pressure on the cable.

Let us know how it works out.

Thanks Reg......not planning on soldering the extension.

I think it's just a case of male and female screw connectors.

I was more concerned about a different wire used in the extension cable. I believe the Commander coils use Litz but unsure of the type used in the extension.

Tony.
