Coil improvement

The current coil designs have been around for some years now,and no one seems to be able to come with any new ones, does any beleive that we can make improvements to coil designs,as they have to detectors.

Existing "basic designs" are the subject of continual improvement.
As far as I know, nobody makes the old "horseshoe" IB loops any more, the ones that were almost like a concentric, except instead of a feedback winding, you literally bent a handful of the transmitter winding over and flopped it partially over the receiver coil. There are probably a whole slew of designs that just about everybody's forgotten, which for one reason or another could get reinvented.
"No one seems to be able to come up with any new ones"? A few specialized aftermarket loops might be recent innovations, but at over $100 apiece, I can't afford to buy 'em just to tear 'em apart and do an autopsy.

Hi Dave
I made one of those coils,I think they refer to them as pin point coil.I could not get it work correctly in the field, would not ground balance, but around my fields near my house it worked great, but I have not given up on that design. Some of the shapes are bit hard to do with a P.I due to the thickness of the wire, but I will keep plodding on,because I enjoy it seeing what works and what does not,and all great posts that every body are contributing.
