Coil in for checkup

Southwind

Well-known member
Just sent in my 11" coil because I believe its got some issues. I use 5 tones and have iron low, gold and nickles low-mid, clad mids, quarters and silver high and iron false's low. I noticed quarters were ringing in in the nickle range (64) and on closer testing found I was only getting about 5-6" and then the tone was a sputter. Put my 9" coil on and everything was killer again. I also noticed if I bumped the coil it would sound off. I called up Detector Electronics and they said send it in. I figure the timing was good anyway with all this snow and cold weather. Does that sound like a bad coil to you?

Thanks

Coil was bought in mid April 2014.

Silencer setting? Any ground notch employed?
What frequency? I seem to have nickels occasionally come up in the low 80's while in 18 khz.
What VDI do you assign to "silver" on the tone setup?

Tried different frequencies. But in 18kHz with the 9" a quarter reads 95. With the same settings I put on the 11" and a quarter reads 64. If I shake the coil in sounds off. The depth is lucky to get 5-6" in the air on a quarter and it sputters. With the same settings my 9" hits the quarter at 12" and sounds smooth.

Sounds like it is most assuredly a bad coil to me.------BTW, I thought you had given up on XP (Deus).----Just asking--because of your previous posts about the company because of business pratices---or??------Have you had second thoughts about them?-----Don't take this wrong as I enjoy most of your posts--was just curious about this.------In any case, I hope you get your coil situation ironed out.----------Del

Thanks Del,

Yes I was a bit put off by what had happened but it didn't seem to bother those I thought it would have. Myself, Like I had said, it didn't affect me personally because I mostly but used anyway at a good price. I have had 6 XP Deus's now and still feel they are one of the best on the market. I will try and always keep a Deus in my arsenal. As I have also said, I'd use a turd on a stick as long as it does the job.

Wow would really have to clean them coins!

LOL.

Just got a call from Detector Electronics Corp. and was told my coil was bad indeed. They are sending me a new one. Great service!

As a Deus potential customer, and relative noob, I'm carefully following this thread...Respect for Southwind's ability, finds, experience, and feedback..I want a balanced package with superb factory support...great to see you were taken care of!:clapping:
Mud.

I have commented in a couple other places regarding the service I received from XP when I had an issue and so just to chime in here, they have met the mark for me when it comes to excellence in service. I don't have concerns about service anymore and am happy to tell anyone thinking of buying a Deus that service should not be on their list of concerns.

Got my new coil today. Works great!

Excellent service and turnaround time.
