Coil plug problem, any help?

jcooking

New member
I have an excelerator 10" coil with a bad plug on the machine end of the cable. Every time that I touch the cable near the plug it shorts out and screams. I have contacted kellyco and they said they cannot repair it, but possibly get me a plug. Does anyone know if I bought an entire new cable from whites if it would just screw into the excelerator coil and work? It seems easier to pay for a new cable than attempt to solder a new plug on the old cable. Any help is very much appreciated, what should I do?
Thanks,
jcooking

I would get the new plug from KellyCo.
You will have to open the old plug up to get the wiring correct.
It is possible to just reuse the old plug.
1-If you are careful not to damage it on opening it
2-If the short is the one of the leads, and not the plug.
Any questions PM me.

The coil cable cannot be detached from the coil. It is a permanent fitting

Your problem is most likely a poor solder joint in the plug end, and easy repair if you know how to solder

Most coils if the problem is on the coil end of the coil wire present a problem to repair.

If on the socket side if you have the expertise and equipment fairly easy to repair.

Years ago when I hipmounted everything had to resolder the socket side many times as there is strain on the cable.

I would take it to an electronics shop as they have the equipment to test and and they usually resoldered the socket side much better than a novice would as connectors are close together and tedious at best.

Personally I feel Kellyco should hook you up with the manufacturer(Excellerator) for more precise info....as they should stand by what they sell..

Took the plug apart and found a short. One if the wire connections was shorting on the inside of the plug, taped it off and good as new. HH

Glad to hear that !!!! :clapping:
But I do agree with Dan.
Kellyco should have taken care of it,if it was a recent purchase.
