Coil question for Bryce----(or anyone)

This may have been asked before---if it has, I missed it. :) ---What's the difference in the "FBS 1050" coil & the other one that is just like it but doesn't have the "FBS 1050" markings on it?---They are the same houseing, etc.----They look identical except for the "label".-----Anyone know if there is any difference in the "innards" of these 2 coils? --------Thanks, Del

Its funny Del how ML and Whites kind of follow suit with things..... larger coils... new machines.... even coils without then with a label. Whites did it with their DFX coil. I noticed it when a friends didnt have the label. There wasnt a darn thing different in their coil just the label..... or at least thats what the Whites teck said. Id be surprised if there was with the MLs coil either.

Thanks Dew----Yeah, it seems like Whites changes their coils (color, label, etc.) about like we change our shorts! --Especially on their 6.59 khz machines.-----On the Minelab (Explorers) the first coil was that beige "1050" on the old XS----then the FBS 1050----then the 1050 without the "FBS" label (not sure which one of those 2 came out first)?----then the Slimline (a joke)----& now the 11" Pro (great coil).----Am I right on this progression of coils?-----Getting back to those 1050's (you could include the beige 1050)----just WHAT is the difference in those 3 coils (if any)?-----I always thought I did better with the old FBS 1050 (of those 3 coils).--------Del

actually a 10" coil...and the 1050 was actually a 10.5" coil.

I don't know if it has something to do with the inner windings instead of the actual circumferance of the plastic housing or what. I also don't know if it's true or not....cause I've also been told by some that the coils are exactly the same:biggrin:

I can tell you though with all honesty that I had 2 of the ones that said "1000" on them and neither hit or sounded as good over the 9" deep silver dime in my test garden as the 1050 coils I have.

So much so in fact that I bought a second 1050 coil to use on my SE before I started using so many aftermarket coils.

Now it could have been that both of the 1000 coils I had were not "up to par" for some reason...and that does happen sometimes.

Both the 1050 coils I have though are deep and smooth...just as they should be.

Again...not sure if there is actually any difference whatsoever between the 1000 coil and the ones that say FBS1050...just letting you know what I've found with the newer 1050's.

I have never seen any "ummarked"...ony ones that say 1000 or 1050 on them.

Thanks Bryce----I always thought I did better with the FBS 1050 (although I never tested those coils "side by side").----So that beige coil on the old XS was a 1000 then?----It's been so long since I had the XS, I can't remember.----My 2 favorite coils for the Explorer/Etrac are the old FBS 1050 (I call it my "club coil") and the 11' Pro.----When that 11" lightweight Pro coil came out, I criticized it--thought it was too flimsy (mickey mouse) made & would never hold up (long term).---I should have kept my mouth shut! ----Was I ever wrong--what a great coil--I love it! -------Del

If you can't come up with a new product..then it's time to change the package. Many people "Just Have To have" the latest items out....

It's done world wide, and with a lot of Sales Garnered to the company doing the "changes"..........

Why is the slimline coil a joke? I just picked an SE with the slimline and think that I have seen others like every coil but this one.

Jeff

Jeff-----One reason I didn't like the slimline is because it falsed in wet grass (very irritateing)-----The MAIN reason I didn't like it was because compared to other coils in the Minelab line up, I just found it generally lacking in perfromance.---I didn't think it was anywhere close in performance to the coils we've been discussing.-----The best thing i can say about it is that it was lighter in weight (except the 11" Pro).----It would be my LAST pick in those size coils in the Minelab lineup & I got rid of the (couple of) slimlines I had.----Don't you wish I would quit beating around the bush & speak my mind??----Others will certainly argue this point and that's fine, everyone is entitled to their opinion---but this is my "take" on it. :) --------Del

Thanks,
What about the 8" explorer coil? If my experience with the Xterra is any marker I will be picking up 1 to 3 other coils.

Jeff

Jeff----I can only speak for myself but if I was in the market for an 8" coil for the Explorers, I would get the Sunray X-8.---In fact I did just pick up a couple of them (one for my wife & I).---I really like the clarity of the "hits" & they are nice & stable plus going deep (for a coil that size)--good for working in medium trash to as long as the trash isn't too heavy.----Bryce "made me do it"---he did an excellent field test on that coil (X-:geek: & perked my interest, I had to try one.-----The first hunt I used it on, I was out finding a few silvers & some wheat backs--it's such a smooth running coil---a really nice "medium size" coil. --------BTW---I love your picture of the cross!---------God Bless, Del

1000 and 1050 is absolutely the same, i have operated them both, slim has the same guts like 1050 and 1000 ,but they have different construction, and to much slims are bad quality, but if its works its works like 1050, weight 1000 and 105o without coil cover is the same like slim. if you know how to work with fiber glass you can use guts of 1050 or 1000 and make liter coil. good luck

I have two factory coils for my Explorer, The Slim Line 10 inch and the Explorer 1000 from an older Explorer. I would think the newer slimline would be a better coin coil. But after reading all on the internet, some like the older coil better? Can someone give me the pros and cons. I am a newbie but I want to learn one system.

Thanks
