Coil Question

I'm sure this has been a topic before, but I have recently got an Explorer Se and it has the stock 10 inch I like the depth on this but I don't want to miss anything. I have been thinking about the new 11 inch by Minelab but think that the Coiltek 15 inch WOT would be a better fit, although it is a little big. I hunt in all kinds of sites trashy and not so I want a coil that is going to perform well. So I guess my question is what is the best coil to have for general locations that will go deep and manage the occasional trashy site? Thanks for any input.

A big coil will almost always loose performance in trashy sites.. Only way around it is a smaller coil and lower sensitivity so it can easier pick out targets among the trash.

Many like the 11" pro coil though the S.E.F 10x12 is also seemingly popular, you can look around the forum for reports.

Everyone don't want to miss a thing, but you'll do it no matter what. So just get over it, there is NO way I know off to get everything...
(if there was everyone would be using it no??)

Good Hunting!!

The 11" se pro coil is a very good choice...it is like a small coil in a big coil.....but in certain areas nothing beats a small coil....the Wot, I have mixed feelings about it......I have seen it go fairly deep....I have seen it find good in the bad iron....but I also can only swing it with a sore arm after....and I am sure it never sees lots of targets.....after the new SE pro coil and new SEF coils came out...the bigger coils are gonna suffer....smaller coils will always be wanted....and needed.....but when you need something light and deep with great seperation...SE Pro 11" coil is what you want.

I agree with what Eu_citzen says. I'll add this: The old rule of thumb about "the bigger the coil, the deeper you go", has an eventual "point of diminishing returns". At a certain size coil, you no longer get coin-sized objects deeper. Only larger objects deeper. This is about the 10.5 stock coil size, for that "point", IMHO. The WOT will only gain you more ground coverage, not more depth on coin-sized targets. I have seen an exception to this on the Sovereign though, where it does go deeper on coins with the WOT. At least on a demonstration I witnessed. But it is fishy, and you are susceptible to more ground minerals (nulling when you put the sens too high), since you are "seeing" more ground.

For my Explorer, I keep a 5" coil, an 8" coil, and the 10.5" in my truck. Swapping coils on the Explorer is easy, so it's a good investments, if you do a lot of varying sites.
