coil question

On mine using the t2se. I find narrowing the pinpoint by pulling back several times to de tune the sweet spot is one inch infont. of the lower rod mount. Try de tuning during pinpoint if you have a t2se I'm thinking that's the spot. Happy hunting. C t

There is actually a dot about an inch in front of the rod mount. That is the sweet spot. HH jim tn

The pinpoint mark is as other have mentioned the dot onto of the coil case, most people think its the mark from moulding the coil infact its the pinpoint mark

Found the sweet spot guys. Thanks for your replies. I've been in the backyard working hard on finding that place on the coil that would narrow the target down to just a few inches. The coil on the T2 is all a sweet spot. But, I'd grown tired of digging holes twice as wide as need be only to find the target on the side of the hole. The real pinpoint sweet spot is at the back of the coil where the little bubble that says T2 on it just behind the shaft. If you try to narrow the target down from the front of the coli it could be anywhere within a 7 inch area. If you back off the signal and approach from the rear of the coil the target is within that 3 inches of area between the back of the coil and the shaft just beneath the T2 logo. Do this and you should decrease the size of your dig holes and decrease targets found on the side of the hole. Note: This applies mainly to good targets. Aluminum trash has a pinpoint area of about 50 feet

Dead Center. It doesn't matter if you are using a Concentric coil or a Double-D coil, the optimal Pin-Point is going to be located in an axis with the coil's center-line. The exception would be an odd-shaped target, or one that is positioned such that it would throw off the Pinpoint accuracy, such as a canted coin.

The so-called "heel" or "toe" method can kind of work, but mainly on shallower targets that can still affect the EMF while it is closer to that part of the coil. DD coils do not really make a "knife-edge" shaped field that goes down deep for the length of the overlapped Tx & Rx windings. They are wide, front-to-rear, to a shallower depth, then they round out, so-to-speak, such hat the most reactive or deepest portion of the EMF is basically on an axis that is dead-center of the search coil.

With practice, an avid detectorist can learn to use a DD coil an pinpoint quite efficiently.
