Coil ?

I don't suppose there is any chance that the 4" BH coil will work on the Older Fisher F5? Does anyone know if the pin pattern on the plugs are the same. Has anyone tried it on there F5. Any help appreciated as it seems to be impossible to find one of the older style 5" coils for the F5 with the plug in connector instead of the screw in type. Thanks for any info.

That coil won't work on the F5 unless its for the Bounty Hunter Gold or Silver series. These two models are take off from the Teknetics Greek series, that it turn the F5 uses the same Platform, and thus should use the same coils.

But, I'm not sure if the Bounty Hunter Gold/Silver series ever used the push in coil connector type.

The much more common Bounty Hunter coils will most likely fit the F2 and the F4.

Hi Rebel1,

All the BH plug in coils will plug in and work with your plug in F5 to a limited degree. They won't ground balance well and performance will suffer. But you won't damage your machine by trying it. You can hunt them ok in mineral free ground but once the minerals content increases you will see even more performance loss.

Back when the F5 first came out many of us were trying the BH coils to see if they would work. I think I have a post about a BH 4" coil in here somewhere about 3 or 4 years ago. Woodchuck used the 8" and 10" BH coils on his F5 for a little while, and there were some others that tried with varying degrees of success.

Remember the frequencys are a little different but they do work to some degree. Can't hurt to try and see how they work in your ground conditions. You might find them acceptable or you might not.

Good luck,
Mike

Thanks for that info Mike. Mainly what i wanted to know was if the connections were the same. The detector i have has a Ground Grab so maybe it will work ok on it. Guess i will try and see since i can't find a 5" DD with the push in connector for it.

Rebel1, one guy really liked the BH 4" coil on his F5. He was perfectly happy with the performance. That may be how it works out for you.

At least it won't cost much to find out. You can probably find a used one for $20 if you post a WTB add in the classifieds.

Thanks Mike. I have had a WTB ad for a 5" DD push in for a while now and nobody seems to have one they want to part with. Will try an ad for a 4".

I guess you know you can still buy the 5" coil with a push in connector new $135.

I called First Texas and asked about the coil and was told that the standard 4" coil will not work on the F5 or Platinum.

Rebel1,

Yes, that is the required factory answer.

You want to know the real skinny on the subject or just the required mfg disclaimer? :poke:

Later gator.

F2's and the F4's are on the same platform and do not share coils with the F5, now that's not to say the F2/F4 coils will not work at all, but they're not setup, calibrated, and tuned for the F5.
The F5 has to do more in that it provides more display information and is more adjustable than the Bounty Hunter or the F2/F4.
