Coils for Vaquero

I think I'm going to get the 5.75in concentric for use in town where there is a lot of junk. Will the it be good for that kind of hunting? I am also thinking about getting either the 3x18 clean sweep or the 12x10 widescan for relic hunting. Which widescan coil would be better?

Thanks.

Most will agree about the "trashy site" abilities of the 5.75C.
Don't know about the big coils. (yet)

Hi,
my Vaquero going well with 12x10 DD HOT - Tesoro, it is comparable (in depth) with my Tejon for coins (up 2 grams) and relics to. Concentric 9x10 is nice for trash sites, from my experience going deeper than 5,25 DD, and I did offer 11x6 DD HOT from NEL company due weight, it is 490grams only. I have been use Vaquero for big NEL 17x15 inches too, for sites where I hit small silvers in deep, and need go deeper significantly than 1 feet, but it is at this moment a bit heavy set, it is for special shooting only.

The Clean Sweep coil is not deep enough for relic hunting.

The 5.75 works great in real trashy areas and the 9 x 8 works great for relic hunting.

I didn't think the clean sweep would go very deep but I wasn't sure. I guess I'll go with the 12x10DD to cover alot of ground. How much deeper will the 12x10 go then the 9x8?

Thanks.

If 9x8 is in the end for small cooper coin in 6-7 inches, you can add with 10x12 DD, I am sure, 3 inches in standard soil. It is in balance, additional depth vs. worse separation it is a tax.:wiggle:

i get 2 to 3 in with my 12x10

I thought my mind was made up about getting the 5.75 concentric now and then getting the 12x10 widescan later when I can afford one, but I was out the other day where a bunch old houses were built in the 1850s. About 30 years ago these houses were rotting and falling apart so someone burnt the houses and turned the land into a cow pasture. Around where the houses were I was having a real hard time getting the V to balance. I would balance it walk 10 feet and it would go crazy so I would balance it again, I couldn't go more than 5 minutes without having to balance it. I have heard that the widescan will work better in mineralized soil which I'm sure is what my balancing problem is from. I'm pretty sure the 5.75 widescan would help with my problem. My question is, is this the only area where the 5.75 widescan will be better than the 5.75 concentric and how much depth will the widescan loose compared to the concentric? Thanks for the information so far.

PS how do you send a pm to somebody I can't figure it out.

A smaller coil widescan or concentric sees less soil and therefore is more forgiving in ground balancing with the edge favoring the widescan. However, from what you describe I wonder if you're picking up trash rather than ground when you recheck your gb. Those sorts of sites are usually loaded with small nails, other iron and bits of trash. Unless you are really sure you weren't over any of these type of targets you may have been re-balancing to that rather than the ground. When I'm hunting sites like this, after ground balancing over a target free area I usually leave the balance alone unless the ground is obviously changing every few feet or yards. As to your other concerns, the 3X16 cleansweep is a great coil for covering play fields etc. due to the coverage, but the depth is mainly good for coins to about 5 inches.
