Coils question....

I'm looking at buying myself an alternate coil for trashy area's and those hard to reach places. What's my best bet on a smaller coil?? I don't want a little 5" coil or anything...that's too small. How well does the 8" perform in comparison to the stock 10.5 where depth is concerned???
Thanks for your help!

i too was thinking of a smaller coil . i found out that the 8inch is really a 7.5 inch and was told it would do well in parks. giving you good trash seperation .but where trash is thick like house foundations where roof and walls have left tons of iron i want to try a 5.5 sunray. i hope this helps you
also you can do a search of the old post here on the topic of coils

The platypus peeks my interest. I'll have to look into it a little more. Thanks again!

If It Is Real Trashy You May Want To Re Think About Not Useing 5"COIL,They Work. You Will Be Amased How IT Will Find Coins Between Trash. You Won't Cover Alot Of Ground,But Will Find Coins If There Is Any.

Cliff,
You are correct about the Sun Ray 5.5" coil. A shorter hot line through the center of the coil sees less targets at the same time than does a coil with a longer hot line. Good choice!!

If you are in heavy trash it may be the best coil to use. I have done well with the 5 inch coil and been surprised at how many times I used it last year. It dont cover a lot of ground, but sure do get a lot more signals with the 5 inch than I do with the stock coil in trash.
