Coils

I recently bought a 305 and now I need a little help/opinions. I am looking at getting another coil. I hunt old farms for coins and relics and city parks, with the occasional woodland hunt. The mineralization here in WV varies on spot to another. So far I like the 305 but I feel that I need more than the stock coil that came on it. So any opinions?

Since you already have a 9-inch concentric at 7.5 kHz, you might consider the 18.75 kHz DD coil for the types of hunting you do. Excellent depth and great target separation. Plus, it will cover more ground with each sweep. JMHO HH Randy

What he said !!! I love the 18.75 kHz DD and use it almost all the time. If I am in real open areas, I will pull out the 10.5 MF DD for maximum depth and ground coverage. If I am in real trashy areas the 6 inch HF DD is the one for me !!

Thanks guys. I will let you know what I decide. I was leaning toward a DD. I am not sure yey though. I have s little time to make up mind though. Thanks again.

did they ever make that 6" 3kHz DD we all wanted?

NO!! :ranting:
Maybe they will by the time they come out with the XT755. I won't hold my breath.
After many e-mails to them expressing our need for such a coil, and even referring them to the thread on this site indicating the large demand, I've heard nothing. Not anything positive, negative, or possible. Nothing at all.

IMO, Minelab has flat out let us Xterra users down when it comes to coil selection. A company in the Ukraine is producing as many clandestine coils for the Xterra as there are "authorized" coils, and even they haven't turned loose a small 3kHz DD....yet. And what is even sillier to me, is that the same Ukrainian company IS authorized by MineLab to make coils for their other machines, just not V-flex technology coils.

Personally, I don't care who makes it, when an option besides the 9" concentric 3kHz comes along (large DD or small) I'll buy it, approved by MineLab or not!

have to agree with you Old Longhair its sad they make such a great machine and don't make a coil we all want and need i am with you who ever makes a small round 3 khz DD coil will get my money it would be a killer coil in the trash for silver, only thing i can come up with is they know it would reduce etrac sales?

Speaking of coils is there anyway I can make my 10.5 DDcoil waterproof? Dumb that they don't make all their coils waterproof other then the 6" and the stock 9" coil. I do a lot of beach detecting and have to use my old trusty Fisher 1280

Considering the length of the rod assembly, I wouldn't be too concerned with the difference between being categorized "waterproof" vs. "water-resistant". From what I understand, the difference concerns succeptability to water pressure at given depths. If I were wanting to hunt the beach with mine, I'd simply run a bead of silicon around where the coil cover meets the coil, a dab around where the cable enters the coil and head to the beach! I did email coiltech also about Xterra coils since they did make the large DD coil. They stated they have no current plans to make a 3KHZ Xterra coil but are aware of the demand by Xterra users. ???????

More how? More what?
More depth? Bigger coil to cover more ground? A different frequency so as to be more flexible? What is it that you're trying to gain?

I need more depth and most importantly seperation. There is a good bit of trash in some of the places that I hunt and I know there silver being covered up. I think I am going to order the DD 18.75 kHz. I beleive this is what Im looking for. If not well I will look at another as long as the wife dosent beat me with the DD if I dont like it. lol

The only reason I won't buy a MINELAB IS MOST OF THE COILS ARE NOT WATER PROOF. WHAT A JOKE THIS IS, GET WITH IT MINELESS LAB

For those X-TERRA users to be better able to help you, I have to ask.................do you own an X-TERRA or do you just like complaining about Minelab?

own a 705 and my only complaint is there is no 3kHz 6" DD coil :ranting: i am easy pleased only want ONE thing

why don't you just give him/her an answer on how to do it.

If you'd read the post directly below this one, you'll see that I had done just that the day previous to his last comments. HH Randy
