coin cleaning

What is the best way to clean coins. i have been told to soak them in olive oil. However that does not seem to clean well. I certainly do not want to damage an old coin and lose value.

Go to coinstar with your coins, Not the old ones,

Really, coinstar cleans coins? But not old ones?

I have heard poeple using vaseoline also to clean them. I have not done it myself. The guy at my local coin store told me not to clean if im going to try and sell one to him.

My Bad not enof Info, Coinstar is a coin counter mechine, thay have im at Save Mart / Rallys its a Green Mechine,

Unless your coin is of a rare type, or in almost unciriculation condition, it won`t be worth a whole lot. Chances are, if it`s been in the ground for a long time it`s condition is not the best. I would say you could safely use a toothbrush and toothpaste and give it a Colgate smile. You can soak it in olive oil, but it will give you minimal results. If a coin is worn....you can`t replace the lost detail.

I clean most of my coins so I can proudly show them off using a toothbrush and paste. Sometimes I make a muck out of backing soda & water, then rub the paste with my thumb HARD over the coin. This works especially well with silver. My final coin gets put in a cardboard 2 x 2.
