<img src="/metal/html/confused.gif" border=0 width=15 height=22 alt=":?"> Hi. Just wondering, can the position or inclination of a coin change the readings? Will the MD read iron ores or gold in a stream for example? How big does the metal have to be to get detected? Staples?
Thanks, I'm still <img src="/metal/html/angry.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":mad"> <img src="/metal/html/angry.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":mad"> <img src="/metal/html/angry.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":mad"> <img src="/metal/html/angry.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":mad"> waiting for my MD...

Yes, the position of the coin will change the reading. Coins on edge (vertical) or slanted can give strange signals, but still will usually sound good, but not always. Generally detectors made for prospecting (finding natural gold) are best for gold. No detector will find gold dust in a stream though, but it might find a concentration area where a quantity had settled out of the water. I do not think staples would be detected - too small and made of steel. Metal detectors are designed to find round coin and ring sized objects - that's what they do best on. You will also find relics, and lots of other junk too. Just set up your new detector at the factory presets and get out there and see what you find. Experience is the best teacher. Good luck!
