Coins found with the "Hoss"

These came from 2 different homes....one relatively new and another older one... Jefferson nickel, silver nickel, 1896 & 97 IH, (I love these coins) 12 wheaties, 1919 oldest, lots of clad... I had hunted the older house before and with the F-75 signals were getting scarce, changed to the JE and had to drop the sensitivity to 40 to keep my sanity. This machine continues to amaze me...Richard

Does a nickel have to be to be silver?

By definition: a nickel is made out of . . . nickel. Ours are alloyed with 75% copper (else thay'd be magnetic). During the war years they were copper, silver & manganese (those have a large mintmark over Montecello on the backside).

silver (35%) copper (56%) and manganese (9) from 1942-1945.. 'bout everybody calls em War Nickels... During the war, nickel was a critical metal that was used in more important production materials...Richard
