Cold day out

Got up this morning and could barely walk. Then looked at the temp..... it was 4 degrees. Soooo it looked like one of those day to go metal detecting.:detecting: I only managed a couple of hours not because of the cold but i just couldnt bend over any more to dig i was in such pain. I dont care how many cloths you put on in 4 degree weather you fingers and toes get VERY cold. Digging wasnt bad where the leaves were..... but under trees where it was bare.... forgetaboutit. I was glad i made that digger so i could put a foot because id never made it trying to push anything in that ground, not only because of my back, but because it was packed and as hard as a rock 3 inches down. I manages 2 silver dimes, 3 wheats, an 1895 IH, some sort of a gold plated good luck penny i thank. Neal.... got me another 58 cal 3 ringer and that other LARGE round of some sort. Not a bad day even thou i did almost have to craw back to the truck and take pain killer when i got home. Whose the MAN????

you did very well in hash conditions my hats off to you nice finds snows to deep here now

Nice finds Dew.:clapping: Now that's a dedicated detectorist who braves going out in 4 degree temperatures. You are definitely the man Dew.:please: Just goes to show that if a man wants to venture out in miserable conditions the finds are there to be had and don't forget to have those pain pills at home waiting for you. HH.

So when I saw that figure in the park looking like a statue with a detector it was really you frozen solid? And my wife thinks I'm nuts for getting up at 6 to go out to a wino infested park for hours only to return later with dirt encrusted pocket change. But it's certainly not 4 degrees here. Dewcon, you now have a Hardcore rating!

No Bobby i was that whino that was having trouble standing  Im in Indiana Aaron, close to Indy. I noticed on one of the other sites a guy asked about his MXT manual saying to be careful taking it out in temps below 30 degrees. I just wanted to let him know if it reacted differently in the cold..... it didnt but i certainly did. Teleman... we have just enough snow to cover the leaves it kind of insulated the ground so you could dig there pretty well. Backs all better today.... i guess i found a new medication for back pain... diggin SILVER.

You are one tough cookie dewcon. It is cold here in NE Ohio but the worst part is the 8"-10" of blowing snow. No open ground anywhere, even under the trees. Supposed to warm up a bit then possibly some rain followed by temps in the teens with some snow. Looks like the season is over for me unless we get a thaw sometime. Good luck and happy hunting!

We have rain coming Sat afternoon, then a big of snow before the big freeze next week. I went to a park today it was 41, i lasted 30 min. before i called it. It was just a mucky mess and my back was still complaining. That 3 inchs of frozen dirt thawed over night and i had crap all over me and my detector. It wasnt my idea of fun. Bryce, ive decided i dont mind detecting in the cold.... so ill wait. I really dont like hunting when you just cant get the mud off of you.

the weather and those biting cold temps!! :surprised: One of the benefits of living in S. Cal is I don't have a "down" season. But I am very familiar with detecting in sticky mud conditions...no fun for sure...My detecting shoes always stay in the car...I don't let them get close to the inside of my condo....

I've been hunting in low 40's the past few weeks here in the mornings, but it will come up to a comfortable high 60's by mid day, and I'm shedding off layers just to keep from sweating.

Congrats, Dew!!

Well im not in jail so ..... i must not have been detecting there. Im aware of those locations, but thanks for the post. Oh and yep i got two of those 3 ringers in an east side indy park. Even a blind squirrel gets lucky and finds a nut sometimes haha. I thought they were possibly from a black powder gun, but one of my hunting buddies confirmed what they were.

Thanks Captn and Bryce. Yep looks like the weather isnt going to be that good starting next week... if the snow dont get us the freeze might. Captn... i had a chance to hunt some on Coranado in San Diago in the winter. Great temps.
