cold weather

How do the electronics of a Sov stand up in very cold or hot weather? The manual indicates that care must be taken when storing it in a hot location, but there are no other instructions that I have seen.

I've used my Sov GT's at the Jersey shore for years in temps from 15% to 95% with no issues whatsoever.

youll do just fine, you just dont wanna leave it locked out in the open in a locked car when its really hot out,the temps in your car can get pretty hot inside your car at times, hotter than the outside temp, you just take a chance on the solder on the main pc board to melt or warp, not good,if you need to leave in a car you should keep inside a box thats insulated or a bag of same,i use a carry bag i got when i bought my excalibur...while living in central florida i never had any issues as id keep my detector in my harley or my pick up ready to hit the beach..
hope this helps
good luck

There is no definite answer.
Your car radio gets subjected to some very extreme temperatures. It may go on the fritz eventually because of this, but you can't tell how long it would take.
A metal detector is more complex with more potential to be damaged. It is not just the temperature range , but how often it is subjected to extremes. All components expand and contract at a different rate with changes in temperature. Repeated stress will eventually cause damage.
Usually you would not use a detector in terribly extreme conditions. As long as you do not subject it to being in direct sunlight in a vehicle in summer it should not self destruct for a long time. This applies to any electronics device. Don't beat it any worse than you have to.

Cold won't hurt it. Sitting in a hot car will. BUT...It's not good to let nimh/nicad or lipo packs to freeze, so don't leave the machine in the garage over the winter months. When your hunting the machine being ON will keep the battery warm(er). I have noticed that when it's hot or cold outside it still takes about five minutes for the meter to "warm up", in that there isn't much point calibrating it precisely for at least 5 minutes or so, then I get real picky with it.
