College Degree

Gee guys...I got my E Trac today from NWI and started reading the manual...No one told me a degree in geology, physics and computer science was required to understand what the E Trac is all about. I sure hope there is a easier way to get used to the basics and setting up for deep finds.
I promise to be patient but I'm 68 and I don't want to die before I learn how to successfully master this machine.
Herb from Texas.

Hi Herb

I also felt a bit daunted at first but it becomes easier the more you use it
best of luck

Turn it on....noise cancel...swing it back and forth and stop when you get a repeatable signal...dig a hole..rinse and repeat. Not that hard. Or, it can be as hard as you make it. Get Andy's book. Good hunting

I got the book with my E trac and your method sounds good for now....Thanks, Herb

Herb,

Dont let the machine intimidate ya. It can be a little over whelming at first but just spend some time with it and read Andy's book. Between the hours on the machine and Andy's book helping me put the puzzle pieces together, it is the best machine I have ever used.

Herb,

There was probably a time when you never would've dreamed you were on the Internet, posting on a metal detecting forum about one of the most advanced detectors out there....

Just hang with it, if you have Andy's Sabisch's book, go slowly over the settings. There are some you pretty much set and forget. Let me put it this way. I think you need to understand "what does what" and "why you adjust this and that", but that can come with time and actually make more sense the more you use your machine.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Being smart always helps and we can already tell that you're one smart hombre' just for choosing an E-trac and joining the rest of us.

Seems that you already have access to the internet, my next suggestion would be to watch some E-trac users in action on the internet. A number of E-trac users make little videos and post them on YouTube. In fact, right above this post is a post by Nebtrac with a link to his youtube videos. Click on the link and watch.

They do help.

And drop a note here on the E-trac forum if you feel stuck with a problem.

You can make a test garden too. So you know what to expect when you do swing over a coin. It truly is a turn on and go hunt machine if you just want to get used to it. Don't give up..spend some quality time with it and it will become your best friend...I sleep with mine under the bed. Good Hunting

You don't need a college degree to push the power button....and that is all you really need to know how to do to work with the E-trac. It really is that simple and uncomplicated if you let it be.

its just like a car. it can be as easy as turning the key and pressing the gas pedal.

your car came with a manual that has hundreds of pages. do you have to read the instruction manual to get to work.....no. do you have to be a mechanical engineer to understand how a car works...no.

do you first have to learn how to drive a car, learn to get a feel for it....yes. the more you drive a car, the better you get at it. the more you get out there and use your etrac and dig targets, the better you get at it.

enjoy the ride!

You forgot to mention the brake pedal..../grin

For now just stick to the factory coin mode and learn to use quickmask. The rest will come in time.....just keep reading Sabish book until you understand the whys of particular settings.
