Found this button at Gascogne's Bluff on St. Simons Island this morning. This "bluff" on the Fredrica River is one Georgia's oldest historical sites.
I think this is what's called a tomback button and dates to the colonial period. Found a fired musket ball the last time I hunted this spot. I've dug a lot of Civil War buttons in Northwest Ga. over the years, but never anything this old. Any info on this button would be appreciated.
