Colonial or Victorian Era Silver Ring

This ring came out of the ground quite dirty - I assumed it was either copper or brass and threw it in my pouch. Today I saw hints of silver on the edges and cleaned it up a bit with some toothpaste. It's a very ornate OLD silver ring missing the stone (may go back and sift the dirt where I found it!). There may be a Maker's Mark inside it, but I cannot locate my jeweler's loupe right now. It's definitely a woman's ring by the size. I like it!

The stone has to be in that hole, we'll find it! So much for the "junk ring", what a great surprise! I can't wait to get back there... I can't stop thinking about it

Yes, this was a real pleasant surprise as it did not come out of the hole clean or showing any traces of silver (must have been there for many years) - it was quite encrusted and I just assumed a cheap brass or copper ring and threw it in with all the relics - glad I didn't lose it!! It's solid, but smaller and I was tired when I found it so I didn't notice that it had a bit of weight to it.

Looks like a hole under the stone. It more than likely was a faceted stone. Nice ring!

From my experience with jewelry it appears to be filigree work so that makes it 30's 40's it could have had a diamond in it because back then they put diamonds in silver. Great find in such nice condition. Continued good hunting.

Thanks Carol K - it turns out that it is silver plated copper....I hav been looking at it under a 10x jewelers loupe. I would have guess much older than 1930 - 1940 based on the age of the site, but I respect your opinion. It was not terribly very deep, but I have been finding older relics at this site in 1" - 2" and ever on top of the ground!

Keep hunting I had a friend on Long Island who was a wonder with his he found a 10 karat diamond ring once. I wish I was him, I can't wait to get mine and hit the beach. Soon I hope I will be posting also and telling my stories and showing my pictures.
