Community support for a fallen soldier.........

We recently had one of our own killed in Afghanistan. Thursday our Community came together to support the family in Vicksburg as they brought 25 year old Captain Drew Russel to the cemetery from the service. A one mile stretch of road was lined with over 2,000 people who came out to support the family. I have seen many communities go through this, and knew if it happened in our town I would be there. Here is a link from our local news station...

Here is the sign in front of the high school all the high school kids lined the street. All of the high school, Jr. high, and the 4th and 5th grade as well as all the teacher took part as well.

Every hand had a US flag in it. There was complete silence as the funeral procession of 150 vehicles came through. Sure was hard to hold back the tears. As the family passed by they were in tears and saying thank you to the people along the street.

There were also dozens of full sized flags that lined the street on that route. As you can see Fire, Police, EMT, ROTC, and other groups also paid tribute to him. Please pray for the family and friends of Captain Drew Russel, and our soldiers serving.

sorry to say but that show of spirit would not happen in my city. We have 1 million pop and surely a few soldiers from here have fallen - but yet no respect like your area, Steve

A true hero, sorry for the loss Mike praying for the family.

Such a difference from when I was in the service. Glad but sad at the same time. Sad to see the loss but glad that the man and his family are shown such respect and support.

So sorry Mike for another lost loved one and friend of so many in Michigan who was serving to protect our American freedoms and my deepest sympathy to his family, friends and loved ones! They are in my prayers for peace and comfort in their very difficult trial of grief and heartache! May God Bless them with His loving arms around them by holding them close to Him in His comforting love! Amen! Ma Betty
