Compadra vs Silver Max

I am sold on getting a Compadra but found a like new Silver Max for $190, do any of you think that the Compadra is still the one I should buy new or get the used Silver Max? The only difference I can see is an extra knob and the fact that you can change coils, but then again I don't know a lot about metal detectors.
 
For one,, what kind of hunting do you want to do. The Compadre is in a class of its own. It is great for parks, play grounds and tot lots. It is very hot on small gold items. Hot on nickles. Both coils,,
The 5 3/4" is very good in them trashy areas. The 8" will cover more ground a little faster and a little deeper. Either one is very good. I use the small coil in parks, tot lots and play grounds. I also have the Silver. You have a sensitivety that can help a lot. Some times when I hunt a spot that has just been used, I turn down the senc. so that I only find the new dropped items. Now back to your used Silver. I am sure it is a great detector. If something is wrong it will cost you to send it in and have it repaired. On the other hand, If you get the Compadre NEW you have a life time warranty. The Compadre WILL pay for itself in no time. Save your coins and jewelry. You will get enough in time to get you a new Silver uMax. Thke your time and learn the compadre. It will talk to you. It wont be long you will know junk from good. You will learn to thumb the disc. knob to see where items go out. This will help you figure what is good and bad. Read all you can about the Compadre... I hope I did not mess up your head too much. There are many people here to guide you through any questions... KEN< IND.
 
Compadre. It just works better in iron and around trash. I have both and if I had it to do over-Compadre. IMHO.
 
The Silver is nice for it's sensitivity setting and intercangable coils that the compadre does not offer. I really like my Silver. Though the Compadre is a very good etector as well, but if it's your only detector, I think the silver offers a little more. You really cannot go wrong, good luck!
 
While I like my Compadre, for 190$ I'd go for the Silver.
