Compadre and my 20 plus year old Garrett Ace 100

I felt compelled today to bring out the old Garrett Ace 100 and go over some of the yard areas I've hit with the Compadre over the last 10 months. The two machines are similar beep and dig units as were all my prior detectors. I went over a section of the yard about 4 feet out from the back patio. Our home is 1883 so there is quite a bit buried in the ground. The Ace 100 runs smoother than the Compadre with less chirps and pops. I never used it with head phones and actually both units are more comfortable to use without a pair of headphones in our Florida humidity. Anyway I was able to discriminate out virtually all of the trash and but still dug some small pieces of brass and a few old pull tabs. Anyway the old Garrett got a solid hit clean and repeatable in a spot I know the Compadre has been over dozens of times along with a few other folks detecting. Dug down and still got a signal with the Ace so I went deeper. At 5 inches probing with the Pin Pointer I got an on target signal and saw a glint of silver. Of all things a Barber dime worn but you could still read the 1902 on the face. One thing I've noticed is that the Garrett is really good on silver, much more so than the Compadre. Earlier in the day in another part of the yard however the Compadre had nailed a 1974 Jefferson nickel. I'll have to get the Garrett out more often, virtually all of the silver coins on the property have come with it, including a 1909 Barber half dollar last spring that was nearly mint. This hobby is fun and today was proof the more you hunt the same spots the better the finds get as you remove the trash.

" Many a fine tune has been played on an old Fiddle" . Congrats on your finds and on having 2 detectors that compliment each other .
Nice photos too .:clapping::thumbup:

I saw one of those at a yardsale awhile back. Should have picked it up. I think they wanted too much but I cant remember. Nice to see they work good.

What you have pointed out is true in almost every situation. Go over an area with one detector and dig your finds. Go over the same area with a different detector and you will find things the other missed.

If you used your Freedom first, there would be targets the Compadre would have hit that the Freedom didn't.

I have never seen it fail.

Just goes to prove there is no one detector that finds it all.

You should have checked the target with the compadre before you dug it, that way you would have known for sure if it was the detector or you just missed that spot before. I've gone over areas that I have detected several times before with the same detector and find things that I had missed previously. Not the detectors fault but poor gridding on my part.

You got that right. I've gone over the same area with same detector numerous times and still find stuff. Now with that being said, I do like to go back over the same area with a different detector or coil combination. Sometimes just changing the coil makes a big difference or going at it at different angle.:detecting:

I have a grassy area by a beach that I have cleaned out and pounded and pounded. I have removed well over a 100 coins and two rings. Despite this I still go over it and find coins I have missed. I have hit this area from every direction. I know if I went there today I would still find a coin or two.
