Competiton hunts

My favorite competition machine is a uMax tesoro.........they are super quick and light.

I have seen lots of Tesoro's at hunts, but any fast detector works well. That includes most of the White's line. Nancy and I have used the MXT and DFX for many years in competitions and finish near or at the top year after year. The new Vision is also lightning fast, I tried it at a Texas hunt the day after it was released to the public............fast...........VERY fast.

I love my Tesoro umaxes for these hunts. Have an MXT, but I consider it too heavy and awkward to use compared to the umaxes.

I really dont like competition hunts. I am not really the compettitive type. Other detectorists at them seem to be a bit too serious & even rude when it comes to competition.

The last one I went to ... the detector raffle was .... well... lets put it this way.... the guy who ran the event... his wife bought most of the tickets.... and guess who won? The guy was also a bit overbearing when it came to enforcing the rules. He cursed us out for leaving trash (which I saw absolutely NONE left behind). The grass in the hunting fields were not mown down enough, so it was like hunting in weeds. There were too many compettitors on the field so it was very hard to move about.... and the electronic interfereance between detectors was a problem (because there were so many people on the hunt field).

I came to the hunt to have fun. I didnt have fun. I felt overwhelmed, intimidated.... and kinda ripped off.

Sorry, but I had to say it. I decided that this kind of thing was not for me.

Mi$$ouri Jim - Sounds like you had the misfortune of attending a poorly run hunt. No wonder you didn't have fun. The two hunts I attend every year are run quite well with large fields for the detecting, you keep all the coins you find and I've never seen anyone overbearing or obnoxious about the rules. They plant a fair number of prize tokens and the detector and other prize raffles seem to be random enough. Usually the more competitive regulars do the best on the coin count hunts, but they earn it. All in all we've really enjoyed them.
