Completed the Ace-Freedom III eval today....

First, let me say I realized I had the Freedom III with an adjustable (finely) disc. control and I had it to where tabs would just barely click. So to compensate for this, I had the Ace in a comparable mode I discovered months ago and even posted it-but no one seem interested. It's basically the jewelry mode, but with the FIRST tab icon ONLY turned off. This rids most of the regular tabs-except for the square, high conductive ones-and is HOTTER on coins in trash. See the moon-shaped zincer that had been clipped by a lawn mower on the right? It hit in the NEXT tab icon-as did several mangled screwcaps. For what it's worth, keys, zipper pulls, and class rings hit on the NEXT icon up (right below zinc penny). I'm glad Garrett left it in on the coins mode. The Ace MATCHED the Freedom III in every area except sweep speed. I know the Ace goes deeper the faster it's swung, but in a serious hunt plan on tossing sweep speed out the window. The 7" groundhog coil was quicker when good targets were close together. I had to slow the Ace down to match it-but now I know my detector better. It excelled over the Freedom III in the nickel area not only in depth but in clarity of signal. As you can see, after I learned a little more about my detector, I found a few coins EXTRA I had previously missed at this spot. The knife was a nice finale for the Ace. Oh, and hunting in near darkness, khouse, helps learn the Ace sounds better:lol:

- - So happens to be the one where the fewest gold rings fall, as well. By eliminating it, you stand the least chance of losing a good ring, while getting rid of most of the round pulltabs.

Interesting post!:thumbup:Good hunt!:detecting:Love the pocket knife!:clapping:Happy Hunting!:)

Yeah, David. I read your great post. Definitely will keep tabs on that.

Good post Slingshot. To find a knife had to be a surprise.
If you have nonmotion pinpoint are you able to outline the
target shape on the rectangular tabs that hit in the higher
conductive range....the ones that aren't close to a nickel
reading ? Just wondering. I had a Freedom 3 for quite
a while and found it to be a very capable coin machine.
Made a mistake in getting rid of it. Thought I was going to
be getting something better. Don't even remember what it
was now. Guess that didn't happen.
Good hunting to you ! Gene

Hadn't ever tried that except on the foil/nickel area. Whenever I get a signal with the#2 disc (iron-nickel) turned close to iron nails, I recheck it in pinpoint. If it gets louder, it's usually a nickel or a large target. If it gets smaller or softer, it's usually foil, etc. I've been using it rejecting tabs, so I'll have to turn the other disc level down and try the outlining.

Not saying it will or wont work with the Freedom III as I never knew
about this when I had mine many years ago If you are able to outline
the target while moving the coil slowly you will see what I am talking
about. Works good for me in trashland that's for sure. Hope it will
work for you too. That would be one less trash target you would have
to dig. Just playing the odds. Good hunting to you ! Gene

What is the audio like? Is it the "bing bong" of the Ace or more like a regular beep?

It's the bing bong-and when I won first place at the speed hunt with it, I named it El Kabong. It is a seemingly faster kabong than the Ace and may be due to the 7" coil-maybe if youl have the sniper coil you can tell me if the bong sounds faster than with the standard 6X9. I'm telling ya', the 7" coil is a go-getter and I covered the 3 hunt fields in the competition hunt WHILE the others were still in the first field. I sat at the finish table for 30 minutes while the hunt continued. With the disc set to just click on tabs, it was hot on the penny targetss-which were multi-colored and with the fast response I didn't even use the pinpoint trigger! I've already repaired the coil wire, which had slipped in the socket and the wires were rubbing against metal, causing some signal response while hunting. Garrett installed a whole new wiring harness about 10 years ago. I'm gonna try to find some fiberglass and remold the torn housing.. Don't know why I've let it set for so long.

Funny!

I would think the coil plays a part, but I'm more inclined to suspect the analog model electronics

Half an hour to keep hunting and recovering targets - and you at there on your hands. Dude you gotta step it up in the future. You dont get many chances in life at the prize... you gotta hit em for all they're worth when you do.

I like the those words - "fast response." It is one of the reasons why I hang on to my analog model Fisher 1236X2. That sucker gave lightning its speed!

It was a speed hunt. I won first place by recovering the # of targets in the correct color combo in the fastest time. There were no prizes except for trophies.

Speed hunt, huh? Well I guess that makes a difference.
For the record, though, trophies are "prizes" in the game of life. The approbation, applause and recognition that go with them add to the whole prize aspect, as well. But you won it, so atta boy! :super: :yo: :clapping:

Sheeesh... I gotta watch it with you literal types...

Well, I didn't want you to think I was one of THOSE guys that had a "missing link" in my circuitry-it does sound funny if you think about it-sitting down in a competition hunt.
