computer question

steve in so la

Well-known member
Why is it that sometimes my Utube videos sound off and sometimes they dont have any audio ? I do have things turned on, plus the vol setting on utube is up all the way. Any ideas ? Thanks, steve in so az

No idea Steve as it happens to me also....and with dialup I have to wait and wait for them to load and play! God Bless! Betty

What 'Default' Player Are You Using? Windows Media Player? Quick Time Player? Real Player SP? I Have Found It Makes A Difference. I Prefer The Windows Media Player Overall. The Others Seem To Have Audio Difficulties; Especially The Real Player SP.

If You Have A Windows Computer, You Likely Have The Windows Media Player. Have You Checked The Audio of Your Computer To See If It's Turned All The Way Up? On The Volume of Your Computer, If It's All The Way Up, Have You Checked The Mixer? If The Sound Appears To Be Okay, Maybe You've Got Some Bad Video's? That Does Happen Occasionally.

Generally speaking, if you've got a video (regardless of where it's from) that doesn't have audio, it's likely that the tape and or recording is defective. We even get this occasionally from our audio/video department in church when someone forgets to turn the audio up on the mixing board. If the majority of your video's play well and one occasionally doesn't, it's usually the tape and or recording that's the problem. That's been my experience so take it for what it's worth. Maybe someone else has a better explanation?

Just 2 cents worth from an old geek, more than likely a utube video problem, if some have sound and some don't. A slim possibillity is the sound format is not recognized by your player.

A really good free player for audio and video is VLC Media player, I think it was designed by Vickman software, plays almost any media file out there. do a google search for a good download site, it may be on cnet.com

Good luck.....James

Welcome to the CMD Forum, James, and hope you post often and join our family of brothers and sisters! :) God Bless! Betty

Thanks James - I'll check it out. Another thing - if it wont give the audio and I shut the computer off and then fire it up again - the utube always plays then. Steve

hope you like it here. Where ya from?

If you turn of your computer and start again "re boot" and the audio plays then, sounds a lot like a sound driver problem, possibly the media player your using. I would check the web for updates for both.

Thanks for the welcome folks!

take it into the shop. Also, the pic dowmloading stops working after a while - have to reboot also to work it. Got a card reader and the same thing happens. steve

Sounds like your best bet is a reinstall of the operating system. If you have a cd burner or dvd burner, or even a floppy drive, save all of the important stuff before you do much with it. Just to save some heart ache, before you lose any data or pictures you want to keep.
