Concerning Isle of Palms and holes...

Thought this might be important enough to start a new thread since the other thread had a lot of posts. In yesterday's newspaper there was an article about the proposed ordinance concerning digging in the sand and leaving holes, etc. Seems what the people are really concerned about the most is the number of tourists who set up tents/umbrellas, etc., using rope lines to keep them from blowing down, and assorted other items/toys that they leave on the beach the entire time they are there (probably renting beachfront houses) and lots of them leave the stuff there even after they leave to go home. There are people who patrol the beaches at night (volunteers) to help keep a watch on hatching sea turtles. They have occassionally stumbled over lines and other items left on the beach as well as the holes. The reason they don't use flashlights is because it is against the law as the light disorients the sea turtles who are trying to find their way to the ocean. Many of the hatchlings never make it to the ocean due to predators and many of the eggs are eaten before they hatch. Anyway, just wanted to pass this along so maybe it will help clarify things a bit. But remember, holes left uncovered are a danger and we certainly don't want that coming back to haunt our hobby. Also, those of you who do come to this area as well as other beaches, please check with local authorities about the laws concerning flashlights or any kind of light in the areas you plan to hunt. Thanks and HH.
