Conductivity or Ferrous

Hi

I am new to hunting, I own a Safari. I hear a lot of people saying that they are hunting in the ferrous or the conductive mode. I know the Safari has 4 set factory modes. I have noticed an icon with the letter C that flashes when I am in coin mode. How do you set it for conductive or Ferrous? Do you mean that you are setting the discrimination setting? I purchased the Safari hand book it has been a big help, I feel I am missing something relating to hunting modes. Is there a way to hunt in the Conductive mode I guess is what I am asking?

By handbook, do you mean Andy Sabisch's book? He describes this in great detail, beginning on p34.

If you select Relic or All Metal it uses ferrous sounds, the Coin & Coin/Jewelry use Conductive sounds, I prefer to hunt in All Metal all the time so I can hear the good stuff in with the iron. You can cross save to get Ferrous sounds in the Coin or Coin/Jewelry mode & vice versa, Andys books tells you how to crosssave.

Ok guys don't mean to high jack this thread but where do you get this book you are talking about?
Thanks Wolfdog

Most major MD retailers sell Andy Sabisch's book "The Minelab Quattro & Safari Handbook". I got mine as a throw-in(at my request) when I bought my Safari.

Thank you MetalMiner, that answers my question. I have crossed saved a few modes. I was a little confused, I thought I was missing something. The Andy Sabisch Quattro & Safari Handbook helped me a great deal. I purchased mine at golddiggersmetaldetectors.com. Thank you all.

I have troubles knowing what the difference is?? I've got Andy's book so crossed saved and made a program but what is one looking for over the other?? Or is it just different sounds given ? In Andy's book he says that those are just titles to X & Y so why do they have two different sounds for the same thing ? For me it makes it harder & confusing but to confuse me isn't that hard. :wiggle:

Mark & Kschae4 are correct, the only difference between Conductive & ferrous is the sounds, & agree with Kschae I like the Silver sounds ferrous gives me, it just has a different ring to it. It's mainly about your own personal preference as to which sounds you prefer, test them both with coins & see which one you think is better for you.

You definitely need to educate your ears, it gets tricky. I air tested my wedding band with the Safari, The ring is not all gold, it has a rim around the edge of it that I think is silver. I get a reading of 38 and a tone that sounds like silver. When I put my watch down I get a solid 10 and a much lower sound. My ears need a lot of schooling, I hope they get it before my back gives out.
