Someone help this dummy.hook is in tack andback mark appears silver but I have been to scared to clean much. Thanks Danny
 
Thanks man ,thats what i thoughbut was still hoping it was confederate since my hunting buddy found a perfect csa belt plate about300 yards from where this was found.

Nice looking button. If found in a confederate area, it could have been worn by a reb for sure. They wore a lot of federal issue buttons. Also, the silver you're seeing is the solder where the shank was attached to the back.
