Hadn't been looted?..............by whom is that hippie, hemp wearing, Birkenstock wearing bearded pony tail having Obama supporting freak referring too?

That's the biggest problem with with all of the archaeologist that are being educated in the U.S. Detectorist are the enemy instead of an ally like in Great Britain. There have been more artifacts lost in our short time here in America than an army of archaeologist could ever recover. Many known sites have been put under guardian ship by the federal govt. or state authorities hiding under the guise of "federal Lands" or "State Parks" because these over-educated idiots would rather the artifacts rot away to oblivion rather than give a hobbyist the opportunity or the credit deserved for the recovery.

This site was reportedly in either a State Park or land managed by the Ga. Fish and Game Commission and that is the reason why it hadn't been LOOTED you jack-wagon! You can find the same artifacts at Antietam, Bull Run, and Gettysburg but they will never be recovered because idiotic laws put in place by idiotic Bureaucrats will forever hinder their being brought to light for many future generations to see and enjoy.

UUUgggghhhh !

Heh. Man did you miss this guy.I have meet him since he started working at the site and came to some of us trying to get up to speed on metal detector usage. He is a rightwing voting, gun toting, tanker boot wearing, never had hair longer than half an inch since he joined the army at seventeen, really nice dude. I called him and told him about your description and he thinks it is a hoot.

Oh, and he has made quite a few friends in this community who have been lending him a hand. He is happy to learn from us "evil relic hunters" because in his own words "y'all been doing this stuff a heck of a lot longer than me". (He always worked low country rice plantation archeology before.)

Personally I like the dude, but i'm easy, I like most folks. Well, I do get annoyed by folks who refer to themselves in the third person, but honestly, who doesn't.

See you around theRick

I know plenty of guys in the field that have a greater knowledge of the civil war, it's movements and armaments than many archaeologists. The only reason it hadn't been "looted" was because it was on protected lands and those limits were respected.

............ and my site name came from the ESPN T.V. commercial character portrayed by comedian Mike O'Malley. Sorry if you didn't see the humor in it.

If some one had gone onto public land and hunted out the relics, they would be looters the way he sees it. So if you don't do that, don't take offence. I have helped out on projects on public land before and I can tell you that some folks do NOT respect that boundary. We have a problem around Savannah Ga. with plantations, Indian site, civil war sites etc. being cleaned out by commercial hunters who are taking the stuff merely for it's value in money. They eBay everything they find and will go anywhere to get it. The truly crazy part is that it is actually part of they drug trade. They get high on meth and can plow through a shell midden in a night. It looks like it has been hit by a bulldozer. We had a problem not long ago with some folks coming in at night at Ft. McAllister, again it was meth related. He was not talking about hunters who go on private land with permission. He worries over that site like it was his kid because he does not want to see the relics lost to eBay, but instead preserved for the public.

That reminds me. Those artifacts will go on display up at Georgia Southern Museum on 10 October of this year. Come on down and see them if you like. Oh, and visit the park up in millen as well.
