Is the grey one a Garrett "Provider"? That was my first good detector (for that time period) bought in 1970. All detectors before Garrett brought out his were next to nothing; The other one looks like it could be Garrett "Groundhog".

that garrettsure is a winner!. worth the price of admission on that one!
seriously you might try something "recent" it may help!..good luck!

I used a Fisher 1260X for 25 years and found lots of good coins with it. It was a great detector for its day but I decided it was time to upgrade to more modern technology so I bought the E-trac. My concern was that all the parks and schools around here have been so heavily hunted that the old detectors just can't compete with the technological improvements that have occurred since 1980. I've had my E-trac less than two months and so far I'm loving it. I've noticed three major differences between the old detectors and the new ones. First, you can get 3-4" more depth with the new detectors; second, you don't have to dig up near as much junk as in the old days and that saves a lot of time; third, the new detectors give you some kind of a clue as to what you are getting a reading on---a lot more so than the old ones that just gave you a beep. Good luck with your decision!

Yes, I agree AND I think your arm will like the new stuff too....probably lighter and for sure... more well balanced.

I think it's pretty kewl to see some oldies still in use. Thanls goldensilver.... :detecting:

I still have my First Detector, Metrotec 220-A, and it still works. My father bought it for my 15th Birthday in 1968. I now have a E-Trac. What a World Of Difference this machine makes on Deep Gold & silver Coins. It is time to Update. HH...Jesse.
