The DFX? I used it for just under 2 years. Yes, I did find some good stuff but, NEVER at any depth that was not achieveable with my Tesoro SS2! that's the thing see ... With my DFX, it was non-stop iron chatter and falsing. It was a nightmare! I spent many a night on the DFX FORUM asking for advice, and to be fair to the good folks on that forum, they were always willing to give me advice. Trouble was, one persons advice always contradicted anothers! the American guys were saying sweep speed at 1, whereas the UK guys were saying somewhere around 10! same thing with other critical settings like AC Sens and Pre Amp Gain, Recovery Speed and so forth.
At the end of the day, I thing the DFX has the potential to be a great machine, but as I've being saying for months now, IT'S TOO CLEVER FOR IT'S OWN GOOD! there are just too many adjustments (40 or so) that you can get wrong and hurt the machines performance! I started off feeling very confident with it, but that soon changed, and I just ended up feeling like I was missing out on targets because I was constantly worried that I hadn't got 'this or that' adjustment set right for optimum performance on a given site.
So far, having only carried out 'in-air' tests, the Hawkeye' seems to be right on the money as far as iron rejection is concerned. That's something I cannot say about the DFX, which is why after about an hour on the fields at the back of my house, I walked home and got my SS2 out!
looks like the Hawkeye is cast in the same mould, but with the added bonus of a reliable target I.D. meter! I can't wait to get out on some of my good sites to make 'unbiased evaluations & comparisons' between the Hawkeye & the DFX. I can assure you all that these tests / comparisons will be totally honest, and if I think that the DFX kicks the Hawkeyes ass, I will say so. From what I've seen so far, I don't think there's much chance of that! MORE SOON!
