Considering adding an Explorer II to my arsenal.

New member
My primary detector at this time is a DFX. I am considering the purchase of an explorer II some time before next spring. I am looking for someone with experience with both machines to let me know the what to expect from the Explorer II. Just an overall comparison of the key features and overall performance pro's and cons etc.

Thanks for any info

I've only had the Explorer II since Sunday, I bought it with the Sunray X-1 probe, it's an upgrade from my CL IDX, and I couldn't have made a better choice because the Explorer II is easy to learn, contrary to the popular belief that it has a steep learning curve (well I read the manual about 8 times and read "Mastering the Minelab Explorer S & XS" by Andy Sabisch thoroughly twice & I saw the Training presentation about three timess too before I received the Explorer so I guess that helped a LOT), learning to pinpoint with the Explorer is VERY easy since it's a double D coil, customizing is also VERY easy, specially if you know what everything does. As for the X-1 probe, well, priceless, I'm really amazed at this probe, it's invaluable to me, I've gotten it to detect items at 4"+ in the discrim mode or the Pinpoint mode, in the pinpoint it detects only at the front of the probe, in the disc or the iron mask it detects on both sides and the front, and it's very sensitive. I don't know if this mini review helps, but trust me on this one, you WON'T be dissappointed at all. If you've decided on buying the Explorer make sure you get it with the Sunray X-1 probe to make a killer combo.

Jt, I have used both and I think that you will like the Explorer II. It has somewhat of a learning curve like the DFX, but mastering that is a lot of the fun.. super bunch of knowledgeable guys here that can help.... BTW, after all was said and done, I opted for the Quattro.... because I like the presets...... Thanks Richardntn
