Most put it on the outside its easier to turn your arm and make the adjustments since it sets back a bit. Its a bit ackward other wise. We normally have the battery pod facing DOWN toward the cuff it only leaves the headphone wires at the end. I use zip tie at the end of the rod to hold the headphone cable in place to keep it from pulling/moving the wire a lot. If you didnt get a knob guard id recommend one.
