One morning while returning from a hike along an old wooded trail, not far from home, I noticed a strange man sitting on a park bench. He was slumped forward with his arms over his head, as though he was doing some heavy thinking, so I said a quick prayer as I drove away figuring that would do the trick. When I arrived home, I began working in the garage on a church project that I was anxiously trying to finish but I could not stop thinking about the poor stranger sitting on the park bench, so I jumped in the truck and headed back to the park. Figuring the man to be long gone, as a good hour or two had gone by, I still remained Spirit lead and continued driving. As I entered the park, I looked over toward the bench and to my surprise there was the man sitting in the same spot with his hands over his head. I parked the truck and asked the man if he wanted to talk and he said "ok." I listened to this stranger talk for about an hour and by the conversation it was clear that he did not want to live. He was a physical therapist who worked with people who had cancer. Seems some of his patients, who he became friends with, were no longer with us and he felt like he did not do enough for them. He talked and talked and I patiently listened. When the time was right, the Lord gave me the exact words needed to defeat the lies that were being whispered in his ears. Every time he spoke negative, I spoke words of life. Oddly enough, at one point in the conversation, my attention was drawn to a group of large redwood trees about fifty yards away from me and on one of the trees was a large white cross shown perfectly as clear as can be. Thinking it was just a tree marked for removal, I didn't give it much more thought. So as I ended my time with the renewed stranger, I prayed a Spirit filled prayer, then went back home. It dawned on me as I was driving, that I was in a protected park and not in the woods, so the redwood could not have been marked for removal. Not fully convinced, I made it a point early the next morning to head back down to park and no matter where I stood I could not find any markings on any of the trees and all trees where present and accounted for. Wow, do we serve an Awewome God or what!
