For testers that have used these two and almost being the same price which one would you buy new?

togg77 said:Yes Hombre, I'm serious--there are other detectors that have coil interchangeability and I just bought a nel sharpshooter for my 75 and I am getting a Racer so I AXED the question. You may answer.Thanks.
My two Compass TR's from the early '70s came sith DD coils standard. I also have the 5" DD for the Omega that I have also used on a G2 or the F19's I tested. I like the 5X10 DD for the Omega and F19 and G2's as well, even thought I no longer have one in my inventory. Other than those which I have or like, you're correct, I haven't cared for DD coils much and have preferred Concentric coils for as long as they have been around. Most specifically smaller-than-stock sizes for the trashier and brushier sites I hunt.TabWhisperer said:Monte has made it obvious he is a concentric coil kind of guy, but he apparently has been won over by the DD coils of the Makro/Nokta machines.
That's possible, but I hope there are enough requests for them to at least explore a Concentric coil concept and at least try to design a smaller size that works with this circuitry.TabWhisperer said:I wonder if the machine is optimized for DD coils and maybe concentric coils wouldn't perform as well in this case.
The 5½X10 DD enclose coil is a very good performer, even in iron trash.TabWhisperer said:I think there is a closed coil 10x5.5 for the Racer that I would like to have for the smooth bottom but I haven't seen a lot of feedback on it yet.
On this comment I am 100% in agreement and I think it applies to several other detector manufacturers detectors and coil selection. Some of the aftermarket search coil interest, in my opinion, seems to be kind of a 'fad' like happening and some people just think they have to have them and that they all work better. I give a manufacturer credit, in most cases, for designing very functional search coils. I have owned and borrowed a number of these and, in the end, parted with most because in-the-field the factory offered coils from the detector manufacturers worked okay.TabWhisperer said:From the reviews so far I'm not sure why you would want to look for a 3rd party coil.
