Cortez vs De Leon

I have had both and is it me or is the Deleon a deeper machine?

I really like the Notch but my Cortez seems pretty shallow.

I have not posted lately but I have hunted very little. I hunted an old House where there should have been some silver and there was but it was a 1958 Dime almost in the street.

Maybe one came a little hotter from the factory than the other?? I have heard of detectors that seemed to differ from batch to batch within the same model; I actually read this from Monte in one of his posts recently. I think he mentioned he would test new machines when they came in and if he found one tuned hotter than what he currently had then he would add that unit to his arsenal. I had both units you mentioned and neither seemed deeper than the other, but I did not own them both at the same time nor perform depth tests to save for comparison. I just use my gut feeling about use of the two when I hunted with them and made mental notes of depth of targets recovered. Are you getting poor depth when you run the notch on the Cortes? Discrimination of any form seems to have to some degree, a negative effect on depth of detection. Also, are you hunting the same sites in the same conditions with both? You could detect during a dry spell with the Cortes but after getting a little rain notice increased depth on targets with the other unit. I favored the Deleon as it was so simple to turn on and go and the Cortes was a bit busier with it's other adjustments and features. Lots of variables here on depth perception.

Of all the detectors I have (too many) I have a DeLeon and a Cortes. Of these two, the D has a bit more reach in an air test, but not enough to be of concern in actual hunting condtions. I like both detectors, but most of the time the extra features of the Cortes aren't a great extra for me. I hunt mostly mild ground and the DeLeon handles it fine and is definitely fun to use. If it had manual ground balance tied to both the all metal mode and the disc mode, it would be near perfect for the hunting I do.
