I found this little jar at the old house site where they burned the house. I noticed that the jar appeared to be filled with charred wood.
So I put it in the pouch to take home and investigate.

The bottom of the jar says Hellman's Blue Ribbon Registered. Not real old, but most likely older than me! :) I noticed a button inside!
HMMMM????

Had to get out a set of pliers to work the rusted lid! Still couldn't get it to turn, so slowly pried the lid up with the pliers!

Here it is opened up!

Here are the contents dupmed out! The charred wood had a blue tint to it. I wonder if the jar was in the fire and the contents got so hot they burned in the jar?

Well here is all the treasure! One lonely button with the thread still intact! :)

Hellmanns still makes mustard. Look in the grocery and you will find it. Good that you investigated the jar - could have been anything, steve in so az

I'm staying away from Mayo from now on. Jar is probably worth something to a collector. We'll never know what the contents were...surprised it didn't break in the heat of the fire or the cooling down with the fire hoses.

it was cooled by water? It was torn down and burned.
