Could use some prayer...

My brother Nicky has had serious health problems over the last 8 months or so and has been in and out of the hospital with walking pneumonia and diagnosed with emphysema. He's back in the hospital with bilateral pneumonia and a pocket of infection that seems to be resistant to some of the most powerful antibiotics on the planet. He won't be able to go back home, even if the infection is cleared up. Actually, the only thing that will rid him of the infection is if they remove a lung. However, there's no way he'd make it off the table as he's very weak. He's better than he was when he was home, but the prognosis is not good... his condition is terminal. While this is all bad enough, my brother is the one who took care of my mother (she's 90) who is well into the early stages of Alzheimer's. Right now, she's home alone (although we have a pretty big network of neighbors, family and friends to look in on her). She could stay with my other 2 brothers but doesn't want to leave her house. She knows my brother is sick, but she doesn't know how sick.

My oldest brother and I are trying to arrange for long term care for my brother and figure out how we're going to handle my mother. We both left work early yesterday to meet with a social worker.

Lot's of decisions to make so, on top of prayers for protection of my mom, and comfort for my brother, I pray for the wisdom.

My mom has Alzheimer's and is living at home by herself. My sister makes all her meals and freezes them and my mom micro waves them. They have the dangerous stuff like the stove turned off. She has this gizmo around her neck in case she falls that notifies my brother who lives about 5 minutes away. He also does all her bills and takes her to ail her appointments. During the day she goes to a senior program for people who have Alzheimer's. She started at one day a week and as she has gotten worse she is up to 3 days a week. Her one wish has been to stay at home. So the kin that live up there are trying to have that be the priority. Eventually they will have a caretaker or nurse stop by and stay with her if necessary. My prayers for you and your family. Just take one moment at a time. That's all that is expected.of you. All will fall in place. May His peace be on you all.
