Counterfeit large cent

Found this bent up largie, after cleaning it up a bit realized that it doesn't seem to be copper. The coin has a strange grey patina that is cracking near the bend.

Weird one there... picture almost looks like rust...does a magnet stick to it? Appears to be modeled after a US large cent...

Its not magnetic.the brown is caked on dirt that i was afraid to toothpick off and loose detail.its similar material to pewter spoon handles i have found not sure if it could be pewter though

I don't think there would be much money to be made counterfeiting cent coins back when they circulated, there are not many metals that you could make it out of that would be cheaper than copper, certainly not pewter. There are modern fakes meant to deceive coin collectors.

There has been many holed largies found, apparently they were used for roofing. The reverse looks right color wise, I'm wondering if half the obverse was in contact with a dissimilar metal that caused corrosion. Does it ID on your detector like other Large Cents?
