Couple of odd ones

I found these a couple of weeks back. One of the club member IDed the white porcelain piece. Its an old bottle cap for a beer bottle around 1900 from David Mayer Brewing Co. in the Bronx. The brass piece is about 2 inches long that tip where the hook is is not broken.... its made as you see it. It may have been something they used for hook rugs is my best guess. Theres been nothing found modern at this place so think 1880s.

Cool finds. I found a similar porcelain bottle cap at an old dump site form a brewery that was in my area in the late 1800s-early 1900s. It was right on top of the ground. That ringed thing is neat too. I found something similar in OH but it didn't have the sharp hook end. Sort of looks like it was a hanger on a belt. HH

Yes David Mayer lived until 1917, his two sons took over the brewery. He was an student political activist who had to flee Germany around 1850, im guessing but it might have been when the name changed from Persia to Germany. He was a merchant in Albany, GA then when the Civil War started he enlisted and lost it all. After the war he moved to NY and went into business with another brewer.... later he started his own brewery in his name. I found one of the caps on a German web site.... the exact same one.
