Covers for search coils

My question is does anybody have those cover for the search coil.? Do you use them while detectin or just for storage.Cause my neighbor has a ace 250 he has worn through the epoxy already.Did'nt want this to happen to me mine has some scuff marks.Thought maybe i can avoid this by puttin the cover over it and still work the same.

Yes, it'll work the same and keep you from having to replace the coil! I remember being shocked at how badly scuffed and worn my coil cover was after a few days detecting in Colorado for gold! I was really glad I had it-you will be too.

Uncle Willy,,lol. Most of us have 1 or 2 detectors to choose from. I have 3 but almost always use the Ace250. Im guessing you have a pole barn full and it takes 6 hours of eni mini miny moe to choose which one to use. lmao. (joke-meant in a good way)

But really I dont use a cover and my coil is fine. I detect in the grass mostly though,no sand or rocky areas.

Well, in my particular case, I was prospecting and trying to keep the coil as close to the ground as possible, which led to some scrapes and scuffs. Over the course of a few days the scuffs just add up. Now under normal circumstances I don't use a cover on my detectors and barely even have any marks to show for it! I keep my coil as close to the ground as possible, which means every so often it will scrape. In the OP's situation, his friend must be scrubbing the ground with it?

If I am working a grassy area, I will take the cover off. But for the sake of extending the life of the coil I will put it back on for rocky ground.

I run coil covers on all my coils. I don't have any problems. Sometimes I gotta stop and turn them upside down to empty leaves and grass and twigs out of them.

I leave mine on all the time. They are so thin it doesn't really decrease depth any.
In a way, you end up going deeper as you aren't afraid of scuffing the ground.
I don't really have to clean them that often either. They fit so tight, I don't really
get that much dirt in them. The 9x12 can pick it up in the flat pockets, but I'll
dump it pretty often before it can seep under the coil. The stock coil cover is an
exact fit, and doesn't have those flat pockets under the holes like the 9x12 cover.
It stays pretty clean as it's a tight fit with no real gaps anywhere.

Garrett coils generally work better if you don't scrub with them due to their sensitivity. It's best to run them at least an inch off the ground.

I met up with a guy who put spray on truck bed liner on his coil, he said he had been using the coil for a few months and it still looked good. I use a coil cover on my ACE but it does pick up a lot of dirt so I am thinking of trying the bed liner thing. He said he just taped off the top part of the coil so he only sprayed the bottom and it turned out great..................Bill in NC

Thanks for info think im goin to get one. Some of the places i hunt at is gravelish grass area cause what under it is good stuff been back filled. And yes i heard of guys putting rihno linnin on the coil and epoxy spray.

Yeah a lot of guys use the bed liner material and it works fine.

Yeah they can and do collect moisture and debris which results in falseing if not kept cleaned out.

It all depends on the area you are hunting and of course your swing pattern comes into play as how far off the ground they are swung.Pro and cons either way way but coil covers are relatively cheap but getting more expensive on larger ones and we all know new coils are expensive..
