[size=large]It was good to finally meet up with some people I'd known on the forum for quite a while but never met. Ed, Elson, Keith, Doc Watson, even met "Ihuntrelics" Scott briefly in a chow line as we both dove for the last omelet..
The Hunt... well, apparently I took a knife to a gun fight. The hunt site had been detected several times before with every machine imaginable. This relic hunt started out to be a Whites TDI hunt only, but because of empty spaces they opened it up to anyone who wanted to go. The ground was extremely hot (mineralized). My DFX and XLT basically growled at it; I don't think I was getting any more than 3" in depth. All of the easy (shallow) targets had been gotten in previous hunts. There were relics there, and the TDI's were pulling them out. Buttons as deep as 14". I swung Sunday from 7:15am to 6:00pm nonstop... didn't even go to lunch... I got 2 fired black powder bullets and 2 small pieces of copper wire. Chris got a bullet under a barbed wire fence. The next day was more of the same except rain and wind. By noon next day you could walk the entire hunt area, stepping from dig hole to dig hole. It looked like they'd flown over the area and decimated with 50 caliber machine gun fire from a helicopter, and people were still digging between the dig holes. I actually got a big blister on my hand from swinging. Chris and I decided we could at least find some relics if we came back home, so with Elson in tow we headed out a day early.
I had lined up a couple places that Elson could possibly find a Mercury dime, but the next morning as we were about to hunt, the 3 worst things that could happen to a Cajun... happened: rain, cold, and wind. Elson decided to head out instead for Louisiana; maybe next time. Below is a picture of Ed and Keith; they were digging buttons in this area as was Bubba and Doc. In the picture below that is an evil gothic pin that Chris found when we got back. I told him to put it back in the hole and bury it, but he kept it... foreboding looking thing. Hope nothing bad happens to him.
