:csflag: Dug another a belt plate today....

[size=large]I was hunting with a friend at an early 1800's house site. I forgot my camera so have no on-site photos. The home-site was in a pasture, not much left of it really just a chimney foundation and scattered big stones. Some of them hand-cut. We started detecting around the foundation with small coils. Had 3 things working against us: hot ground, tons of iron, and an electric cow fence causing the detectors to beep every 3 seconds... a very frustrating way to hunt, especially when you're on a site like the potential this one held. We started digging a few old house site items, brass handles, latches, pocket watch parts etc. But after about 45 minutes I was starting to doubt the potential. I figured whoever used to live here was dirt poor. Moving away from the house site I ventured into the pasture and got a good signal. I hollered to my friend that I had a good one, even before I dug it. Cutting a deep plug I pop up a brass belt plate; I'm looking at the back of it on the ground. I immediately get that old relic hunter junkie high... left leg starts twitching like an old dog being scratched. I holler to my friend that I had a belt plate, he hollers back "YOU DO NOT!" "Oh yes I do!" He came over and I started cleaning the front of the plate trying to figure out what it is. The back looked like a militia configuration. I could see letters on it but I'm not making out anything readable, and I'm not recognizing the design. More scrubbing with a toothbrush reveals a large "G" and then small letters, then a big capital "B" and small letters. More scrubbing, and my heart starts to sink. Green Bay!... it says Green Bay! Then I saw 2 letters under Green Bay, HS. You have got to be kidding me... Green Bay High School! There is an old high school in the area named Green Bay. It must be really old 'cause this plate's been in the ground a long time. Well, I can't even say that this beats a jab in the eye with a sharp stick, 'cause this is more like getting robbed. Anyway, here's a couple pictures of it below. Some days you're the bug and some days you're the windshield. Thanks for looking,
Vernon

I know what you mean, Vernon....it's just like the time that I thought I had found a beautiful gold ring...turned out to be "junk".

How many relic gold belt plates have you found to this date?
