:csflag: Good one tonight...

A couple of months ago I was having some trouble with my Whites detectors. The XLT was turning itself off whenever it felt like it, and the DFX was having trouble air and ground balancing. I sent them in to Whites for repair, they sent them back with a bill of about $150. I soon found out to my dismay that both detectors still exhibited the same problems I had sent them in for. I called Whites and talked to a customer service rep, she told me to send them back and that Whites would fix them for no additional charge (that doesn't include the $41 it cost me to reship them back). Yesterday I got both machines back with a work order and explanation saying that they could not duplicate the problems I was having. But knowing who I was, they went ahead and rebuilt both machines from the ground up (the electronics inside). Both have new circuit boards, new LCD screens. They sent them back and of course there was no charge.

Soooo, tonight I took both detectors out in my yard for a test run. The DFX seems to be working, except I am still having trouble with the new 10" DD coil. So I got the XLT to give it a run, put the little 6" coil on and was poking around a very trashy part of my yard (house built 1779), got a real nice signal, VDI about 50, popped up this encrusted coat button. I could tell right away it was going to be a good one.

It took nearly 45 min. of scrubbing and picking, and this is as good as I could get it so far. It is a very cool button. VMI cadet (Virginia Military Institute). This button would date to the mid-1800's (VMI founded in 1837). It's very possible the soldier who lost it was also in the Civil War, and it is considered a Confederate button. Has Virginia state seal on it and the words "Cadet" on top "VMI" on bottom. This is the 5th Civil War button I have dug in my yard.
