:csflag: Hot trip, a few digs...

I've been fortunate enough to get on some property where a Civil War skirmish took place... that's all I'm going to say about it  . Above is a small shot without giving away any details of some of the area I've been detecting. I've been poking around here and there on the land, looking for some productive spots. So far I've found over 50 bullets on my 3 trips. I'm giving just about everything to the land owner, which I really don't mind at all since there is a good chance that I might find a Confederate belt plate here, and that would be well worth it.

Today was hotter than a 2 dollar pistol. I went onto a large field and spotted a small knoll some distance away that would have been a good observation point or a small encampment spot for a group of soldiers. As I started to ascend up the knoll, the chatter of iron from the machine told me there was some activity here at one time. First I dug a bullet, then a round lead ingot, then this brass nose cap off an 1853 Infield musket. I recognized it right away from hours of scanning Civil War relic books. Below is a picture of a nose cap on the end of the stock. The barrel rested on the nose cap and the ram-rod went under it.

Below are the finds from my 4 hour exploratory trip today. It's a lot of land to cover but this winter will be more productive when the grass is down and the days are cooler.
