The Shootist and I are new to this putting pictures on the site (hopefully it works!). We heard of a canyon we had never been to before, so we left early with coffee and detectors in hand. We found the canyon and drove up as far as the snow and mud would let us go. We decided to stop and detect an old camp site. Of course, he jumps out of the truck and gets the "best spot" to detect, around the old camp fire ring and the area that would get the most use. So I sat in the truck and had more coffee. I finally decided I would get my detector out (ACE 250 of course). The ground was extremely lumpy with ground squirrel holes. I dug up a couple of beer cans, then got another hit. Thought for sure it was another can or pull tab, even though it was reading $1 and the Ace was telling me it was 6 inches down. The hit was no longer in the hole so I looked over to my pile of dirt and could see it was standing on edge. I was so excited so I went over to show my honey, the detector gooroo with his 2500 Garrett and still detecting the "best spot" (I guess I kicked his butt there!). We never found another coin in that spot and only found one other coin all day, he found a penny.
Now we know how to post pictures, we can show some of out other finds here in Idaho. We really like this site and have learned a lot from it. We don't find a lot of old stuff like you do back East, but once in awhile we come up with something good. I guess all the poor people headed West looking for gold with no money in their pockets to be lost!
