Kurt,
I too used a White's Eagle II. I had it since it was new and know how use to it very well. I decided to buy a used Explorer XS about two years ago and I just bought an Explorer SE. I have had the SE for about three months. Wow, is there a difference between the Eagle and the Explorer. The learning curve came real easy for me. The difference came on how you use them. The two biggest was the Eagle pinpoints better than the Explorer XS but it is about the same with the Explorer SE. So if you get a Explorer XS or Explorer II get a Sun-ray X-1 probe. Second, with the Explorers you have to swing real slow and I mean slow compared to the Eagle. One thing that I liked best about the Eagle was when it showed that you have detected a Quarter it was a Quarter, Nickle was a Nickle, Penny was a Penny and so on....... With the Explorer you have tone ID, cross hair or digital number read out. I go by tone ID. If you want DEPTH? You can't beat the Explorer. Period
My back yard, I think it must been used where all the construction debris was dumped when they build all the homes in this area. I tried to hunt it with the Eagle but there was way to much trash. After get the Explorer, I try it in the back yard. Wow, did it work great in that trashy yard. I pull up several Wheat pennies and a lot of other modern coinage. My back yard went from undetectable to detectable by using an
Explorer.
I can say. I think finding more between the XS, Explorer II and the SE. There is none. Yes, the SE has a faster processor, better pinpointing and some other small changes over the XS and Exp. II but they are equal in depth and IDing targets.
I don't want to start something here, Just my opinion. So, just get an Explorer and get detecting.
SE is my favorite detector to use.
XS is my backup detector.
Eagle, I will hang on to. I don't know why.
