Custom Diamond Head Flat Bottom Scoop

Had this done by a local welder from the design I put together and sent to him. Its based off of the Nuttall scoop but with a flat bottom which works well for hard rocky/clay bottoms that I can scrape along with to pick up targets easier. Case in point, the first day I used it, I picked up a silver ring on the second scoop. The handle is the same as my other, 4ft fiberglass about 1.25" in diameter.

Saltshaker, looks like a great design:thumbup:....just a few questions, how heavy is it (minus handle) and how much did it cost to make? Looks like those holes are 1/2 inch?

Thanks. Yes, its 1/2" holes, Stainless steel of course...weighs about 3.5lbs without the handle. Cost was 130.00 plus the handle was 20 bucks from an online store. So total 150.00 for me but very worth it especially for some local lakes that cant be dug strait down.

I like the split shaft design. Makes changing a broken handle easier, but could that be a weak point? Let us know how it works out. I like the design.

Its the same as my other scoop. The split design allows it to clamp onto the handle, in my opinion...making it stronger. With the handle being fiberglass, its pretty strong. I dug for hours in a huge rock bed that was a couple feet deep without any issues.

I just bought the Nutall scoop....my first scoop ever. It is a haus, I don't think it will ever break. I am a bit concerned with the weight though. I guess alot of it is technique, but at 5+ lbs, it gets tough on the are. I have only used it once so far, but I can forsee that during a long day of hunting, you will be worn out....or at least my left arm will be

I wouldnt worry too much about that. I use mine for hours with out an issue. The first day I hunt for the season, my arm gets sore but after that its fine. I like the extra weight though when I am in deep water, it cuts through those rocks like butter.

Thanks, that is good to know. I am new to surf detecting and look forward to using the BHID 300 when it arrives soon

I use the T-Rex 9.5 wet sand scoop. I went to Lowe's and bought a Werner Ladder Tool Lasso. I put the elastic cord around the handle as close to the scoop as I can get it. Put the holder on my belt and that way I don't have to lug the scoop around in my hand. It is very easy to take the scoop off the holder. If I am working soft sand the end of the handle leaves a mark in the sand to mark my progress.

That's nice! Looks like it will hold up a looong time, lol. The handle you bought, did it have pre drilled holes, or did you have to drill them, to attach it?

The handle did have predrilled holes. One lined up and the other didnt so I just drilled out another one.

In the water, I drag my scoop like a hoe instead of stepping on it like a shovel...just seems to work better for me, on the dry, I swing it like an axe, off the shoulder with an overhand chop! it has a 90 degree handle though, and I hunt barefoot..so maybe thats why? :clapping:
Mud.
