I know this was an old auto company. Is this a hood ornament or what?

I have no idea. I wouldn't think a hood ornament,, possibly a wheel / axle cover ,, steering wheel center cap. Just my guesses,, im sure someone else will ID that for you tho.
 
Some of those old cars had radiator badges too....
 
Funny thing it came from a house yard built in 1950. We found wheats and silver but not older than the forties. You never know

What ever it is you got to love those old cars. Lovingly built by craftsmen and not a few men/women and a bunch of robots. Just bought a new Expedition and it's an electronics nightmare.
