CZ-3D autotune

Has anyone ever used their CZ-3D in autotune? Opinions?

Just order a new CZ-3D last week; it arrived today. Opened package to find a Gemini 3. Back it went. What a disappointment.

Been using the CTX-3030 and just can't get more than 7" depth out of it (on a coin). Been looking at the CZ-3D for a number of years. Hope the CZ gets the advertised depth.

The CZ granted you get a good one, will perform well, its probably one of the best machines i ever owned and i regret getting rid of it. Found more gold rings and deep coins with it than with all machines afterwards, and being that its analog it isnt susceptible to EMI like the Digital Machines are.

Where are you hunting the 3030 that you cant do any better than that? I don't have one mind you, but Ive got an Etrac and you should be doing way better than that. CZ gets really good depth too, its comparable to a minelabs BBS/FBS depth..

I've got both, and they're very comparable in depth. Most high-end VLFs are.

The ground is your primary depth limitation, followed by EMI, and of course the operator.

That's why no detector manufacturer actually advertises their machines will get XX inches in depth.

Hope you enjoy the 3D...it's a fun detector to use, and quite a bit different from the CTX.

I'm hunting in a 100+ year old park that has been hunted hard. I've used both the Etrac then the CTX 3030 in this park over the past 3 years. The odd part about this park is that in several areas I've found quite a few wheaties at 4-5" deep, but no deeper coins in those areas. Logic would indicate two things: 1) these parts of the park haven't been hunted as hard as other parts of the park, and 2) if I can find wheats at this depth then there should be older coins even deeper. These are both excellent machines and I've found a lot of old coins with them - just no coins deeper than 7".

I grew up using a Fisher 1260X so I thought I'd try the cz-3d. Only been out with it a couple of times, but did find a 1929D wheat that I missed with the Minelabs, so there are still old coins waiting to be found. I've read the manual several times and lots of posts on this site trying to pick up as much knowledge as possible.

Mike is right what he said about the upper end machines.

Good luck with the CZ. I have a used one coming to me this week.

There are just so many variables. I believe the CZ will see coins missed by the Minelabs and a PI will see ones they missed, etc. Even changing swing speed and approach angle with the same machine will see targets previously missed. A different coil size does it too. It is darn near impossible to totally clear a field. I pulled a big iron skeleton key and two wheaties yesterday from a field I've hunted for years and many others have too. Remember also the deeper the target the easier it is to miss for several reasons. To hunt as thoroughly at 8 inches as at 3 or 4 you need to overlap your swings 2 or 3 times tighter (ballpark). Your IDs are lower, too. I don't think there are as many coins at 8 to 10 inches as say 4 to 5 in most places, but who know what we miss???
I know this is all stuff most already know, but a reminder doesn't hurt and maybe its new to some.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I appreciate all of your comments. No one answered my original question about running in autotune. Just curious if anyone uses it and why they think it's better than disc.

I've been using the 3D for 10 days now and haven't dug too many iron objects. Did find a couple of iron chunks at 12-13", but that's okay, I'm still learning the 3D. It does love the aluminum twist caps. That's okay too; I don't mind if I'm digging older coins.

So far I've found two wheats (1920 & 1929D), one war nickel (1943S), about 50 modern coins, a 1942 dog tag, and best of all a small 10K gold wedding band. Not bad for a park that everyone and his brother has hunted (including me) for the past 40 years. Oddly, I haven't found a single dime as yet.
